Use of Standard Journal in Dynamics 365 Business Central

Introduction

In this blog, I will demonstrate using Standard Journal functionality in Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Standard Journal

Standard Journals provide users with the benefit of saving transaction details and utilizing them at a later stage. Consider monthly expense payments, users will manually enter the details for the current month’s initial payment and save the journal line entries for future usage.

Steps to save Standard Journal

1. Globally search for ‘General Journal’ and click on the relevant link.

2. Enter the journal lines. It can be single or multiple lines. Now before posting these lines, if the user wants to save these lines to reuse them again, the user can Save this template.

3. To save these lines, go to Actions > Functions > Save as Standard Journals.

4. When the user clicks the ‘Save as Standard Journal’ action, the following Box pops up.

Enter the ‘Code’ and ‘Description’ to uniquely identify the journal. Users can even enable the ‘Save Amount’ toggle button to save the amounts on the journal. 

5. By Clicking on OK, a confirmation message pops up of the successful creation of the standard Journal.

Steps to Reuse Standard Journal

1. Go to the General Journal page and click on Process > Get Standard Journal Lines.

2. By clicking the ‘Get standard journal Lines’, a box pops up showing all the saved journals. Users can ‘Delete’, ‘Edit’, or ‘View’ before getting the lines on Journal.

3. When the User selects the journal, a confirmation message pops up mentioning successfully inserting lines into the journal.

4. The lines will be populated on the general journal. Users can edit the lines and post the journal.

Please note: The changes made on journal lines will not reflect on the saved template.

Conclusion

This feature of Dynamics 365 Business Central is very useful for users who are working with Journals that are recurring in nature.
